wednesday

i'm still toiling away on a new batch of prints. the pre-printing work is taking a really long time or maybe i'm just letting it take a really long time.

but anyways, here's something silly i made this week.
it's a swim cap hat. inspired by old timey swim caps and a wee bit of Amelia Earhart. i made it mostly out of scraps i had in my box of tricks- i only ended up buying the star buttons. it has cute ruffle flowers you can't quite see in the pic.
today i jetted downtown to the fabric district to pick up some fabric to put together another fun project. i do get distracted makin' stuff sometimes.
because we're pretty busy the next few weekends i think i'm gonna wrap up the photoshop work on the new prints and hopefully have them ready to print mid month. i'm still pretty excited about these even though they are taking me forever, ok...not forever...i'm just really impatient and super excited to print the circusy carnie animals!

monday

this weekend i finished a new print, my first ever gig poster.
usually i work in limited edition art prints but i thought i'd be fun to make a print for The Mutaytor and the Sand By The Ton show they are doing in a few weeks in Oakland CA. I did all of the art for the poster except for the logo for the band and the event logo. The print is two layer red and black, 16x20 in and edition of 50. The event is giant themed party taking place in a 250,000 square foot warehouse in west oakland. There will be 200 tons of sand, 8 swimming pools, an indoor beach and 8 stages!!! It should be all kinds of awesome!!!

Thanks to Buck for sending me his art of the bands logo and the event logo and a big thanks to my guy who helped me in the studio to print fiifty of these beauties. They'll be for sale at the event for $25.00 (with a cut going to the band) and in my etsy store.

paper field trip!

i hot-footed it out to van nuys today to stock up on paper for screen printing.
I picked up my order and scored a great discount on some additional paper from the clearance section. the paper guy also hooked me up with a brand of paper to buy next time that's a bit cheaper than what i have been ordering, yay cheaper!
oh, and he threw in some linen texture paper- super score!

my trunk all full of paper, oooh pretty pretty paper!

sneak peak!
i haven't shared any drawings with you lately as i've been hard at work on them in the computer. but here's three new animals that are featured in some new prints i'm working on. as often as i am prone to nabbing stuff that already exists for my prints these are all my own drawings which is super fun for me!

i've also been working this week on a gig poster for a show the band my guy is in. hopefully that will print out this weekend and i can share it with you mondayish!

monday

my guy and i spend a lot of time staring at our projects on the computadors. with days like that we try to get out for a bit and go for a drive, enjoy the sun and see whats happening.
because i haven't spent that much time exploring the mountains we live in we've been driving random roads in the afternoons, sometimes we have an idea of where they go and other times we're pretty sure we're gonna end up in the high desert somewhere a few hours later :)

here's some new pics from our drive sunday afternoon which took us from sunland to santa clarita via little tujunga canyon road. it's a real pretty drive! it goes all the way up and over the mountains.

and a cactus flower a bloom in our yard.

friday

Cirque Berzerk!
Opening night was last night and based on comments from friends it looks to be an amazing run! If you haven't seen that big top tent going up near downtown Los Angeles than you're in for a treat!

LA weekly
has already done a great write up of the show with some great pictures. If you don't already know about this amazing show please, please please go check it out!!!

Our friends have put together an amazing show we're all so proud of them. It takes a lot of hard work to put together something this big and after working on it for months all the hard work is paying off. It's a short run so get your tickets while you can!

Here's a little bit about it from their website:

"It’s been called everything from "a circus on acid" to "French burlesque meets Sweeney Todd." Cirque Berzerk's unique flavor of adult psychedelic vaudevillian tomfoolery returns to the Los Angeles State Historic Park. Performances run Thursday, June 18th through Sunday, July 5th, 2009.

Born at Burning Man in 2005 and named one of “L.A.’s 10 Weirdest Events of 2008” by the Los Angeles Times, Cirque Berzerk has tickled the collective innards of L.A. and beyond with a psychotically-tinged sultry show filled with sinewy, breathtaking acrobatics, sensual aerialists, gothic stilt walkers, fetishy burlesque dancers, voluptuous contortionists and a host of punk rock clowns, none of whom know how to make cute balloon animals for the kiddies. "Wholesome family fun" it ain't."

wednesday

it's video wednesday!
i don't usually watch a ton of vids online but today a number of interesting things crossed my desk so i thought i'd share

the giant stinky plant is blooming at the Huntington!
here's some more info if you want to go check it out.

somehow i totally missed these tiny shorts by Isabella Rossellini made for the Sundance Channel.
They are live action shorts depicting the sex lives of insects and marine animals.

This one is totally not safe for work sound wise so play it at home please. the costumes and sets are fantastic!
