Halloween recap!

woo! what a great Halloween! late last week i got it in my head to make a costume, the big decision was Owl or Octopus? Oh gosh what a hard decision to make... in the end Octopus won! I picked out the fabrics on Thursday, managed to survive a trip to Joann's the week before Halloween- man was it hectic in there! Cut everything out Thursday night and sewed it together Friday for a bit and Saturday morning. The most time consuming part was sewing all the tentacles and stuffing them!

aw!!! Octopus!
see the cutie fabric lining! it was swirls and dots! sometimes the quilting section is all kinds of awesome!
here's my guy looking all swank as we traveled on the train wearing a dapper Zoot suit-rockin' the 1920's.
We drove over to Pasadena and then took the train down to a party at Los Angeles Union Station! A few weeks ago I was asked to donate a piece of art to The Silverlake Music Conservatory's annual fundraiser, I was happy to do so and they offered to let us attend the event as donors. So generous! I was just honored to be asked to help out such a great organization. It was such a great event! Beautiful location, great free snacks, free wine and beer- great musical performances including a great set by Ben Harper. Everyone was wearing great costumes and happy to be there to support the organization! We bid on a few things in their silent auction because everything was so great- I did get a winning bid on a sweet necklace by Penny Royal!

here's the stage with a blurry iphone pic

oh and here's what the whole costume looked like :) it was super cozy and fun to wear. The outside is soft corduroy and super comfy. I wore some of my other weird costume clothes i made a while with it and it came together super cute!

After partying at Union Station we made a brief appearance a friends party and then this Octopus was ready to slumber to the bottom of the sea.

friday

oof! remember how i work in the sound rentals business and how tomorrow is Halloween? yep, a slew of last minute rentals and i'm just now getting to my blog!

but I had a great meet up today with a fellow that came to Artwalk to buy a set of my circus animal prints! it's super exciting when I sell them as I'm still really proud of them and the way they turned out!

I came across a great artist this week that I want to share with you guys! I was taking an Internet break and checking out the front page on etsy when I came across her work. Darla Jackson

The image on etsy was this piece:
oh my! so many kinds of awesome! love it's rough mottled skin, it's inky black mask/face. love the littlest hint of the eye showing! so after clicking around the other beautiful work on her etsy site it becomes apparent that quite a few of the other sculptures are part of installations with groupings of various animals.
love, love the tiny party hats on the animals!

oooohhhh! there's a bunny in those balloons! another installation!

here's hew website for more info

monday

another Artwalk! this one was a great sucess! we had a great group of eight artists showing! a few new faces and it all went really well. Thanks to everybody that came out! the weekend was full of friendly faces that drove from near and far to see our work and visit.

this year i decided to try my hand at screen printing on-site! something i've never done before as i'm so used to my own studio at home but it turned out great! people were excited to see how the process works and i sold a bunch of the print i was working on. next time i'm going to fine tune the way i have the screen clamped and face myfelf better to my area where my work is displayed.
i pre cut a bunch of different paper options but the music pages are the ones that were the most popular!
here's just a few of the prints i made. they were all a bit different and unique!

thanks to everyone that came by and to those of you that picked up my card or picked out work to take home! feel free to contact me with any questions and check out my etsy store for various prints for sale!

Thanks!
