monday

quilts!
it was weekend of quilts and wandering los angeles.
friday i hit up our local goodwill - nothing too exciting, picked up some regular clothes (mostly with new tags still on them!) and one fantastic vintage black coat. saturday morning on my way to the farmers market i swung into a local rummage sale and scored this great cozy vintage quilt for $8.00. yay!

i went to the Artisan Cheese Gallery in Studio City with a girlfriend for lunch on saturday and gosh was it yummy! Duck confit on a sandwich! I'll totally go back to try more and next time to buy more cheese when it's not crazy hot out. I made another hat on Saturday. this one is a tiny black velvet circle about three inches across. I slipped a headband into the lining and now i can wear it tilted forward near by bangs. see slightly crappy pic below. It has a vintage flower on it I bought years ago. It will be fun to switch out all sorts of fun things pinned to it!

Sunday I went to the Internationall Quilt Festival in Long Beach with two friends. It was super fun, yep I said it. The quilt show was awesome! It was neat to look at all the stitching in all of the quilts. To see all the various ways that quilters add texture and depth to the fabric. From hand painting the fabric to using itty bitty squares of different fabrics - it was all about the texture.

The quilt show also had a pretty large vendor area. We wandered around looking at all the quilts for sale and all the gadgets that you can buy. Those long arm quilt machines are intense. I'm not sure where you fit something so big! They were also a number of notions and buttons vendors which I'm a total sucker for! I picked out a giant 2 1/2 inch across pewter button that has a spider web with spider and fly embossed on it. I can wear it as a pin. I also picked up some ribbon. Gosh I love ribbon!

a most awesome quilt top for sale.
i couldn't justify it just for the smoking fish but he sure was cool!piles and piles of softness

We all went to a BBQ at a friends house after that and then to watch a movie at a warehouse later. (Doomsday! so awesome- Mad Max, period costumes and zombie lepers all wrapped into one movie!!!) I finally retrieved my guy from his ride share back from Tahoe gig around 11 and reflected on what an awesome weekend it had been!

The flower from Bellocchio is still totally awsome. Love the change out option on the teensy tiny gorgeous hats.
